Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) - Informed Therapy
Strengthen your emotional muscles. Let us help you build a life worth living.
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) – informed therapy is an evidence-based therapy that was developed to effectively treat symptoms of mental health that do not respond to other forms of therapy or pharmaceutical treatments.
DBT- informed therapy is an effective treatment for: suicidality, self-harm, emotions that are ‘up and down’ or very low mood, impulsive behaviours (such as risky sexual behaviours, substance abuse, overspending), relationship difficulties, as well as Borderline Personality Disorder.
DBT- informed therapy can be particularly helpful for those going through a difficult separation or divorce as the client learns practical tools that assist to lower conflict and to positively co-parent. Legal counsel may wish to retain the services of our DBT – informed therapist to assist in case management as a means of increasing their client’s positive behaviours for greater success in court proceedings.
This treatment assists clients by exploring and addressing negative behavioural patterns and replacing these with life skills in the areas of emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness and interpersonal effectiveness. There is also an element of emotional and environmental exposure, which is experiencing feelings rather than suppressing them and utilizing skills instead of avoiding situations. The combination of skill use and exposure enables clients to become effective in their day-to- day lives and to build a meaningful and fulfilling life.
This treatment is appropriate for adolescence and adults. Allow the psychologists at Taylor Clark Psychological Services to assist you with DBT- informed therapy.
